ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½

In order to provide a safe and secure environment for all ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ personnel, patients and visitors, weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden from all ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ facilities and on all ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ owned or leased property. (The only exception is for authorized law enforcement officers).
Examples of weapons include, but are not limited to:

  • Firearms
  • Edged weapons (Swords, Knives)
  • Generally pocket knives and multi-tools are not considered weapons; however, extreme caution should be taken in their presence. Any edged weapon with a blade length of over 3 inches will be considered a weapon and will be stored in the safe.
  • Striking implements (Batons, Clubs)
  • Missile throwing objects (slingshots, bow/arrows)
  • Explosives
  • Incendiary devices
  • Any other object deemed to be inherently dangerous to ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ patients, staff, visitors, contractors, or vendors. 

Under Virginia law, weapons are prohibited in hospitals and freestanding emergency departments. This includes firearms, knives, tasers, explosives, and other weapons. Violations of Virginia Code § 18.2-283.3 are punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor, and any weapon carried in violation of the law may be seized by law enforcement.
