Eight ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ hospitals have received ratings of four stars or better from the (CMS) as part of their 2026 hospital ratings, which they released this month.

Three of those eight ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ hospitals earned five stars, the highest rating possible. That’s an increase from only one hospital with five stars in 2025. Overall, four hospitals improved their ratings year-over-year.

Around the country, only 12% of hospitals earned five stars, and only 29.8% earned four stars, .

The CMS star ratings provide patients with an objective measure of hospital performance across critical areas including outcomes, safety, and patient experience. The ratings are based on 52 metrics.

“We are honored to have so many of our hospitals recognized for their quality and safety by CMS,” said Michael Hooper, M.D., ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½’s executive vice president and chief clinical officer. “These ratings are a testament to the skill, compassion, and commitment of our clinicians and staff, who work tirelessly to ensure every patient receives the highest standard of care.”

“Even as we strive for further improvement, this recognition marks an important and well-earned achievement,” Dr. Hooper added.

The following three ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ hospitals earned five stars:

• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Princess Anne Hospital
• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Williamsburg Regional Medical Center
• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ RMH Medical Center

The following five ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ hospitals earned four stars:

• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ CarePlex Hospital
• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Martha Jefferson Hospital
• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Norfolk General Hospital
• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Obici Hospital
• ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Virginia Beach General Hospital
